Sous Chef
Hospitality · Clarence Park, Adelaide SA, Australia · Full-Time · $70,000 - $80,000/yr
Want to grow your kitchen career and still have your evenings free? A fresh, energetic food venue in South Australia is looking for an experienced Chef de Partie or up-and-coming Sous Chef who is ready for more responsibility.
You will work closely with the Head Chef and get the chance to take charge of the kitchen and make decisions during service. The menu is a fun mix of deli, café and sandwich-style food, so there is plenty of variety and room to be creative.
The role is 38 hours over five days, mostly morning and lunch service, with most shifts finishing around 3:30pm.

- Run your own section confidently with little supervision
- Cook and prepare dishes following set recipes and quality standards, with consistent flavour, presentation and portions
- Get your prep and mise en place done before service starts
- Share your ideas for new dishes, specials and kitchen improvements
- Make sure food is prepared efficiently and plated to a high standard
- Watch how ingredients are used, help cut down food waste and assist with stock management and ordering
- Follow food safety and hygiene requirements, and keep kitchen areas clean, organised and ready for service
- Stay calm and work efficiently during busy times
- Communicate clearly with the Head Chef and the rest of the kitchen team
- Guide and support newer, less experienced team members where needed
- Own the job of keeping standards high from start to end of service
Requirements & Eligibility
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie, Sous Chef or in a similar commercial kitchen role, gained in a café, restaurant, bistro, deli or comparable setting
- Strong skills in cooking, preparation and kitchen organisation
- Confident running a kitchen section on your own
- Shown ability to follow recipes and get consistent results
- Strong attention to detail, food quality and presentation
- Able to stay organised and composed when service gets busy
- A reliable, dependable attitude to work, plus strong communication and teamwork skills
- A positive attitude and willingness to take on responsibility
- Leadership potential and the confidence to make decisions when required
- Having relevant culinary qualifications is advantageous
- Committed to full-time employment and willing to complete the required 6-month trial period
