Support Worker/Life Facilitator

Healthcare · Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty, New Zealand · Full-Time · $25 - $30/hr

Are you the kind of person others can count on? This Life Facilitator role suits someone responsible, capable and people-focused, who knows that good support starts with trust, consistency and accountability. If you have cared for others back home in the Philippines or while working abroad, you will understand how much that trust means.

You will be part of an established 24/7 team supporting a highly motivated tetraplegic client. The job is more than care: you will help the client stay independent and active, and keep up with personal, professional and family commitments.

You will need to show you are reliable, communicate with confidence and work respectfully within a structured team. Following routines, using your initiative and building professional trust matter as much as your hands-on support skills.

  • Help the client with personal care and everyday living needs
  • Keep established routines and schedules on track, giving practical help throughout the day
  • Be a key part of a well-coordinated 24/7 support team, passing important information on clearly to the others

  • Drive the client to activities and appointments and go along with them
  • Offer friendly companionship and positive social contact
  • Stick to the individual care plan and agreed support procedures
  • Keep professional boundaries and speak respectfully
  • Adjust to changing needs and situations, using your initiative to find practical solutions
  • Help out during travel when required
  • Work rostered day, afternoon, evening and overnight shifts, including sleepover duties as required
  • Join role-specific training
  • Turn up dependably and give consistent support
  • Help keep the environment safe, positive and respectful

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Previous experience in disability support, healthcare, personal care or community support preferred
  • Minimum NZQA Health and Wellbeing Level 3, or willingness to work towards the qualification
  • Valid driver's licence is essential
  • Proven reliability and professional conduct, with an honest, trustworthy approach to work

  • Good common sense and practical judgement, staying calm and level-headed when situations change
  • Strong personal accountability
  • Able to work as part of a 24/7 team
  • Able to follow care plans, routines and instructions accurately
  • Happy to take a hands-on approach
  • Flexible about changing schedules and support requirements
  • Available for day, afternoon, evening and overnight sleepover shifts
  • Available for at least two weekend shifts each month
  • Able to work approximately 35 hours per week across approximately 2–4 rostered shifts per week
  • Willing to undertake training and build relevant support skills, and committed to respecting the client's independence, privacy and priorities
  • Overseas applicants requiring employer-supported work visas may be considered, subject to eligibility
