Mining Engineer (Medium Term Planning)

Visa sponsorship

Engineering · Brisbane, QLD, Australia · Full-Time · Discussed at interview · Visa: Employer sponsored

Kabayan, if your career has taken you deep underground and you enjoy planning how a mine moves forward, this opening deserves a look. A large underground operation in Queensland is hiring a permanent Mining Engineer focused on medium term planning.

This is a zinc-lead-silver mine with a long life ahead and a busy layout, where development, stoping, ventilation, backfill and infrastructure all depend on good timing. You would prepare the plans and schedules, keep them updated and keep finding ways to improve them so the team reaches its production and development goals.

There is flexibility in how you work. The role can be based in Brisbane, done as fly-in fly-out, or done while living at the mine. Good news for applicants overseas too, because visa sponsorship is available for suitably qualified candidates.

  • Take the Life-of-Mine and long-term planning strategies and turn them into practical medium-term mining sequences.
  • Plan those sequences so stope extraction, development timing, ventilation availability and infrastructure readiness work together.
  • Create medium-term sequences that the site can translate into short term plans.

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or in a related subject area.
  • Demonstrated experience working in underground hard rock mining, preferably with exposure to roles in mine planning, scheduling or technical services.
  • Experience in mine planning and design software such as Deswik, Surpac or equivalent.
  • Use of that software for development planning, stope sequencing and schedule analysis.
  • A strong understanding of underground mining methods, development requirements and production sequencing.
  • The ability to interpret geological, geotechnical, ventilation and operational constraints and include them in practical mine plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to assess planning risks, identify constraints and develop practical solutions.
