Ready for your next big step in underground mining? A well-established underground mine in Brisbane, Queensland wants a Senior Mining Engineer to join its short-term planning group and bring proven technical know-how plus real experience below ground.
In this role you take the mine's set strategies and break them down into clear plans the crews can actually deliver, so production and development stay safe. You should know what underground work is really like and feel confident using your engineering skills on mine design, drilling and blasting, production planning and the problems that come up on the job.

Key Responsibilities
- Take the lead in preparing and delivering the mine's short-term plans for underground work, breaking bigger strategies down into steps operations can follow
- Create mine designs covering development, production and underground infrastructure, using planning software so every design is accurate and workable
- Use what you know as an engineer to get better sequencing and better results on the ground
- Draw up drill and blast designs and fine-tune them
- Check stope designs against what short-term production needs
- Sit down with operations crews so each plan stays realistic and doable
- Spot risks, limits and room for improvement in the plans
- Guide and support the mining engineering team on technical matters, and coach engineers, graduates and cadets
- Line up planning needs for development, stoping, services, ventilation and backfill
- Make sure production is ready and planned work gets carried out well
- Keep looking for ways to make mine planning and design better
Requirements & Eligibility
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, or a related field of study
- Minimum 6–8 years working in mining engineering
- Solid hard rock experience underground, plus a good grasp of how underground mining methods and production processes work
- A proven track record planning mines over the short term
- Shown ability to design mines for real operations
- Solid background in drill and blast design work
- Has led technically or mentored junior engineers before
- Good command of stope design and mine sequencing
- Comfortable using Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine, Deswik or similar software
- Underground mining experience that is genuine and can be verified when you show it
- Communicates clearly, thinks analytically, solves problems well and works smoothly with technical as well as operational teams
