Heavy Excavator Operator

Visa sponsorship

Construction · Auckland, New Zealand · Full-Time · $35 - $40/hr · Visa: Employer sponsored

Kabayan, if you have spent years behind the controls of big excavators, this Auckland opening could be your next step. A recycling yard in New Zealand is hiring a Heavy Excavator Operator for a permanent, full-time place in its crew.

The machine is a 30-tonne tracked unit, and you will switch between shear, grapple and magnet as the scrap moves through the yard, from heavy steel all the way to export loading. You are promised a 30-hour minimum, with steady weeks of up to 50 hours.

There is potential AEWV sponsorship support for highly qualified international applicants who are onshore or ready to move, so strong operators from anywhere are encouraged to apply.

Before you apply, get your English CV in good shape and show every attachment you have handled. Use Build AI CV to get your CV ready and add your heavy equipment tickets too.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle the shear to reduce vehicles, machinery and structural steel
  • Work the grapple to separate metals and load the balers and shredders
  • Gather ferrous metal into stockpiles with the magnet while keeping lanes clean
  • Do the pre-start check each day and take care of the hydraulic lines at every attachment change
  • Help fill containers for export

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Excavator experience on 30-tonne-plus machines from a scrap metal yard, heavy demolition or quarry environment
  • Confident, direct use of the hydraulic shear, grapple and magnet (essential)
  • Valid NZ Class 1 licence that includes a WTR endorsement (highly preferred)
  • Sharp sense of space around active trucks, machines and ground workers, and the ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
