Good news for experienced flooring tradespeople: a growing flooring installation team in Queensland is hiring two Floor Layers to work on a steady flow of projects.
If your previous work clearly shows your hands-on skills, this could be a great fit. Projects cover residential, commercial, retail and new-build sites, and you will get to use your skills on both carpet and vinyl installations.
Flooring experience gained in the Philippines, the Middle East or elsewhere can be part of your story, as long as it can be verified.
Key Responsibilities
- Look over each work area, take accurate measurements and read the plans to work out what flooring materials are needed
- Pull up old floor coverings and get subfloors properly prepared
- Lay broadloom carpet, handling underlay, gripper, seaming and stretching
- Fit carpet tiles on residential and commercial sites
- Put down luxury vinyl plank flooring
- Cut, fit and finish flooring materials with precision
- Put in trims, thresholds and edge finishes
- Handle repairs and rectification work where required
- Keep your workmanship to a high standard on every job, and keep vehicles, tools and work areas tidy and safe
- Get along well with customers, builders and other trades
- Comply with Australian requirements for workplace safety and flooring installation
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a Floor Layer
- Hands-on experience with broadloom carpet and/or vinyl plank that you can demonstrate
- Strong knowledge of how to prepare subfloors
- Able to take accurate measurements and work from plans
- A proven record of finishing flooring installations to a professional standard
- A current driver's licence and a current construction White Card, both held before you start
- Good communication skills and comfortable dealing with customers
- Reliable, and physically able to do flooring work
- Can work on your own or as part of an installation team
- Commercial sheet vinyl experience, including welding, coving and wall vinyl, is highly regarded
- Experience in advanced floor preparation, or in floating floor or engineered timber installation, is highly regarded
- Overseas applicants who are suitably skilled and have verifiable relevant experience may be eligible for visa sponsorship
