Drainage Operators & Drainlayer

Have you worked in drainage or civil construction and feel ready for a new challenge in New Zealand? Civil construction teams in Otago are looking for experienced Drainlayers, Drainage Operators, Drainage Labourers, 20T Excavator Operators and Multi-Skilled Operators with Class 4.
Moving to a new market takes the right experience, practical ability and a professional attitude, so you can fit into a new team and deliver from day one. The work covers big infrastructure projects in drainage, wastewater, stormwater, utilities, earthworks, roading and general civil construction. It is hands-on and varied, great if you like solving practical problems instead of repeating one task. Applicants are assessed on genuine work history, relevant experience and practical skills, whether gained in the Philippines, the Middle East or elsewhere.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and maintain stormwater and sewer drainage, and build pressure and gravity drainage infrastructure
- Lay pipelines and the civil infrastructure that goes with them
- Work on wastewater pump stations and treatment plants, and help install water treatment infrastructure
- Operate 20T excavators safely on civil sites
- Do excavation, trenching, backfilling and site prep
- Run loaders, compactors and other relevant machines
- Carry out PE welding when required
- Complete approved confined-space work
- Put in telecommunications and power utility infrastructure
- Handle concrete construction and finishing
- Help with landscaping and reinstating sites
- Understand project requirements and finish work to specification, spotting site challenges and helping find practical solutions
- Stay productive while meeting the quality standards required
- Work closely with operators, drainlayers, supervisors and other site staff
- Follow health, safety and environmental procedures and help keep environmental and community impacts to a minimum
- Keep equipment, work areas and sites in good order
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated experience in civil construction, drainage or a closely related field, including relevant practical experience as a Drainlayer, Drainage Operator, Excavator Operator or Drainage Labourer
- Proven experience running construction machinery where applicable
- Current and clean Class 2 driver's licence
- Holding a Class 4 licence is advantageous
- A WTR endorsement is advantageous
- Experience with excavators, loaders, compactors or other heavy machinery is advantageous
- Strong practical and technical knowledge of construction work
- Reliable, with a professional work ethic you can demonstrate
- Able to adapt to different projects and responsibilities
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, plus practical problem-solving ability
- A safety-first approach to all site activities and a commitment to quality workmanship
- Able to work consistently in a physically demanding construction environment
- Willing to relocate to Otago, New Zealand
- You must hold valid New Zealand work rights or meet the requirements for employer-supported visa sponsorship
- Suitable overseas candidates can be offered visa sponsorship
