Love the heat of a busy wok station? A professional kitchen in Belconnen, Canberra ACT is looking for a qualified chef whose skills come from real commercial kitchen work.
The job is all about practical ability: handling a high-volume wok station with confidence, turning out consistent Asian dishes and helping other kitchen sections when needed. You will need solid technique, good kitchen discipline and the ability to keep standards up when service gets busy.
Chefs from the Philippines and elsewhere with well-documented qualifications and relevant work experience are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Run the wok station during service, from prep through to cooking
- Cook a range of Asian dishes with proper commercial kitchen techniques, keeping flavour, portions, presentation and quality the same every time
- Help out on the grill, fryer, pan and general prep sections whenever needed, adjusting as service needs change
- Get food prep done quickly and efficiently before and during service
- Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures
- Help keep track of stock, rotate it and handle kitchen inventory
- Make the most of ingredients and cut down on food waste
- Keep your station clean and tidy all through service
- Work smoothly with fellow chefs and the rest of the kitchen team
Requirements & Eligibility
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent recognised qualification
- Minimum two years of relevant wok-station experience in a commercial kitchen
- Proven hands-on experience cooking Asian cuisine, with strong practical skills on the wok, grill, fryer, pan and prep areas
- Able to keep standards consistent when service gets intense
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene procedures in a commercial kitchen
- Professional, dependable and cooperative, and able to work well in a fast-paced kitchen team
- Available for rotating rosters, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
- Able to provide verifiable proof of relevant qualifications and work experience
